Player representation broadened with insurance
The number of FIFA-licensed players’ agents in South East Asia will soon double. Up to ten new licenses will be issued by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) on the conclusion of professional liability insurance negotiations between Indonesian-based football agents and PT Asuransi QBE Pool Indonesia and its lead insurance agent, dMAC.
Mrs Shinta MacDonald, President Director of PT dMAC Indonesia praised Sports Dynamics for its research skills and diligence which lead to the identification of the QBE policies for FIFA-licensing.
PSSI had requested Sports Dynamics’ assistance after its approaches to domestic and international insurers had failed. Under FIFA regulations, a players’ agent’s license is activated only after a professional liability insurance policy covering FIFA regulations has been issued.
However, Indonesia law insists that Indonesian citizens must be covered by domestically-registered insurers, most of whom were unaware of the business scope and reliability of player’s agents in Indonesia.

Papuan basketball girls win Silver at RI Games
The first engagement by Sports Dynamics under its Papua Sports Commission (KONI Papua) mandate to develop cooperation between Indonesia's Papua province and Australian state and territory sports associations has been deemed a success. Regarded as a rank outsider, the Papua province U23 women's basketball team was narrowly defeated by host East Kalimantan province in the final of the Indonesian National Games (PON XVII).
Sports Dynamics organised an intensive Basketball Victoria program for the 'Papua Curly Angels' in Melbourne, Australia, during 18-31 May which included home stay with families of the Diamond Valley Basketball Association, friendlies against sports high school teams and a high profile 'international against the DVBA district team.
Manager of the Silver Medallists, Mrs Regina Muabuay, said the Papua Basketball Association (PERBASI Papua) had recognised the need for the Papuan girls to get international experience to win Gold at PON XVII and had chosen training in Melbourne to strengthen the team.
"We now want to make a cooperation MOU with the Australians so our players can again enjoy that excellent experience," she told the Cendrawasih Pos.

Perth Glory FC reviews training tour in Indonesia
Scott Gooch, CEO of A-League professional football club Perth Glory has thanked Sports Dynamics and "the personal efforts of Geoffrey Gold" for "tireless work and enthusiasm" in organising the club's successful preseason tour of Indonesia during 25 June - 6 July 2008.
"From a football perspective, the tour was a very worthwhile exercise for our club in preparing against quality opposition for the upcoming season and for spending time together as a new group ... we look forward to discussing similar opportunities with you in the near future," he said.
Perth Glory participated in the Western Australian Sports Development Seminar in Surabaya, East Java, on 26 June and played their first friendly on 29 June against Indonesian Super League Club Persik Kediri - winning 2-1 before a packed local crowd and a huge national, prime time Sunday evening television audience.
Perth Glory held training sessions in Kediri and in Surabaya, where they also conducted a training clinic for local youth, and concluded their tour with a 1-0 victory over ISL club Deltras Sidoarjo on 4 July.

Indonesia’s student basketballers to play in WA
Sports Dynamics has advised Indonesia's Deteski Basketball League on a reciprocal annual exchange of boys and girls teams with Basketball Western Australia to promote sport and friendly relations.
Confirming the first ‘DBL Western Australia Games’ for October 2008, DBL Commissioner Azrul Ananda said the boys and girls teams will be picked "not only by their performance on the court but also by their attitude and good work in school."
Australian Ambassador Bill Farmer said the program will “build long lasting friendship and understanding between the people of our two countries.”
“We are thrilled to be entering into this relationship with DBL,” said Rick Smith, CEO, Basketball WA. “This is a great opportunity for our two cultures to come together through the sport of basketball to learn and grow from one another. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship between DBL and Basketball WA”.
Established in 2004 in Surabaya, East Java, by the Jawa Pos Group ( Indonesia’s largest media network of 120-plus newspapers and television stations), the DBL is now Indonesia’s biggest student basketball league with over 50,000 player registrations. About 600 high school and junior high teams (boy’s and girl’s) with more than 13,000 players are participating in DBL 2008 and the competition’s coverage is planned to grow from it current 11 major cities in 10 provinces to 15 in 15 provinces in 2009.
Importantly, the DBL has introduced high standards of conduct to Indonesian sport. It is the first league in Indonesia to enforce the Student Athlete concept, in which grades in school are as important as – if not more important than – on court achievements. Player registrations are carefully screened for age group and academic performance, correct attire and behaviour at games is enforced and the DBL does not accept tobacco product sponsorship.

Universal game brings WA closer to East Java
The Western Australian 'Soccer Festival' in East Java, co-organised by Sports Dynamics, received massive coverage in the Indonesian media.
An initiative of the Western Australian Trade Office to extend the 18 year-old official sister state/province relationship between WA and East Java, the events included the inaugural "Football Friendship Cup" between Football West's State team and East Java's U23 team in Surabaya (attended by the Australian Ambassador and with a live radio broadcast back to WA), a Football West training clinic for young players in Sidoajo - a municipality badly affected by the Lapindo mud volcano - and the presentation of the Western Australian Sports Development Seminar in Surabaya.
WA State coach Robbie Dunne said his players were “still mad at losing” 0-2 to the East Java side and looked forward to the “next time”.
Perth Glory FC's preseason training tour (including international friendlies against Indonesian Super League clubs Persik Kediri FC - televised throughout Indonesia on prime-time Sunday evening - and Deltras Sidoarjo FC) added to the focus on Western Australian - East Java relations.
As a WA State Government agency promoting trade and investment, the WATO sought and received 'all-of-government' support for the events, particularly involving the Department of Industry and Resources and the Department of Sport and Recreation.
WA Premier Alan Carpenter said the events focused on "identifying opportunities for building mutual and long-standing friendships between East Java and WA. Sport is close to the hearts of many people in WA and East Java and is an invaluable way to bring our regions closer together ... The goodwill generated from this sporting event also opens the door for fostering business opportunities between our two regions, and helps to promote our State’s overall relationship with East Java in a definable way.”

Papuan women train under top Australian coach
.
The first engagement by Sports Dynamics under its Papuan Sports Commission (KONI Papua) mandate has brought the Papuan province U23 women's basketball squad to Melbourne, Australia. In late 2007, Mr Hanoch E Mackbon, Executive Director of KONI Papua requested Sports Dynamics to develop cooperation between Indonesia's Papua province and Australian state and territory sports associations.
The Sports Dynamics-organised program for the 'Papua Curly Angels' squad of 13 players and 11 officials, was personally supervised by Ross Wignall, the head coach of Basketball Victoria, the champion state for most grades of male and female youth basketball in Australia.
Conducted over 18-31 May 2008, the program included 32-hours of on-court training, player fitness and conditioning, specialist sessions for coaches, players home stay with families of the Diamond Valley Basketball Association, friendlies against sports high school teams and a high profile 'international against a district team immediately prior to a main Big V women's league game.
The 'Angels' met players and coaches of the NBL Southern Dragons, attended a football game at Melbourne's iconic MCG stadium as guests of the Australian Football League and visited many other Victorian sports and tourist venues.

Social responsibility focus at Asian Sports Forum
The first edition of the Asian Forum on Sports Innovation held in Indonesia was concluded the day after the historic victory of Iraq over Saudi Arabia in the final of the Asian Cup, also held in Jakarta.
Chairman, Geoffrey Gold of Sports Dynamics and Forum speakers attending the wonderful game were warmly greeted by Asian Football Confederation President Mohamed Bin Hamman and VIP guest FIFA President Joseph S Blatter.
At the high-profile conference at The Sultan Hotel Jakarta, the Forum's two integrated streams - 'professional sports dynamics' and 'sports and development' - proved timely for local private sector funders of athletes, clubs and sports competitions as a new Corporations Law just passed by Indonesia's parliament included, for the first time, 'Social Corporate Responsibility' obligations for most incorporated businesses.
Fritz E Simandjuntak, Vice President of the Indonesian Marketing Association and Head of External Relations of the Rajawali Group, emphasised the opportunity presented by this unprecedented legislative initiative for all domestic stakeholders in sports administration, athlete management and revenue raising.
Geneva-based David Winiger, Special Assistant to Dr Adolf Ogi, the Special Advisor on Sport and Development and Peace to the United Nations Secretary-General, presented a broad overview of the Special Adviser's mandate for the world of sport, sports industries and governments and UN organisations, to identify activities and programs which benefit from a partnership with sports organisations.
Johann Olav Koss, multiple gold medal Olympian and CEO of Right To Play, the international NGO leading the use of sports and play for the development of children youth, detailed Right To Play's projects in over 20 countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia using specially designed sport and play programs to teach life skills, peace building and health education to children affected by war, poverty and disease.
Clare Kenny Tipton, fresh from managing Asia’s biggest and most complex sports tournament, the AFC Asian Cup 2007 which involved 16 teams playing 33 matches in eight stadiums in four countries, outlined the scope for development, opportunities, challenges, realities and possible rewards for sports in Asia. The Asian Football Confederation's Deputy General Secretary, Director of Marketing and Director of Media and Communications, she backed the AFC's claim that the future of football is Asia - from grassroots through to the professional levels.
Dez Corkhill, Television Producer, News Editor and Director of Content for espnstar.com, also ESPN Star Sport’s sometimes controversial The Top Corner presenter and commentator on Asian domestic football, pin-pointed the marketing bias of sports broadcasters while identifying opportunities for Asian competitions to increase their profile. "The best of the action is right on your doorstep" he said.
Two excellent local case studies on the progressive social role of sports were presented to an international audience for the first time:
Said Fauzan Baabud, UNDP Livelihoods Program Officer in Indonesia’s tsunami-disaster struck province of Aceh described sports and youth empowerment programs as crucial elements in post-disaster rehabilitation work .
Anton Inbenai, Dept of Sport and Youth, Jayapura City and Henk Rumbewas, Papua province international representative for the Indonesian National Sports Committee, outlined the Persipura Football Club’s role in HIV/AIDS and safe-sex awareness campaigns.
Presentation documents have been added to the Asian Forum on Sports Innovation website - http://www.asianfosi.com - as well as media report links and notices of future events.

Indonesia's Erol Iba rejects Sydney FC offer
Persik Kediri and Indonesian national team wing back Erol Iba, has rejected advances from Sydney FC after the club could not match his current pay packet at the Indonesian power club. "It's a shame" said Chris Tanner, Iba's FIFA-licensed player's agent. "However there is some interest from two other A-League clubs, plus clubs in Japan and China who have seen him play in the Asian Champions League against their compatriates."
Iba was sounded out by Sydney's coach Branko Culina three weeks ago, but Iba, who is married with two children earns close to USD100,000 and with the possibility of a transfer fee being included in the deal, Sydney and Iba were unable to strike a deal.
"The interest and pledged support from the Indonesian community in Australia opened up possibilities of corporate support for the deal" added Tanner, CEO of Sydney-based Zenith Foootball management and Chairman of the Australian Licensed Players Agents Association, "but time was also the enemy as Sydney have other options waiting in the wings."
Iba mesmerised the Sydney defence in their first clash, forcing Sydney's Ruben Zadkovich to employ alternative tactics which saw him red-carded. He caught the eye of many Australian pundits and Culina was the first to enquire as to his availability. "I was honoured to be approached by Sydney, and I would love to play in Australia's A-League, but I have to look after my family and my future" said Iba from a national team training camp as Indonesia prepare for the Asian Cup.
Iba is Zenith Football Management's first Indonesian signing through its association with Asian-focussed Sports Dynamics.

Western Australia - East Java Football Taskforce
Australia’s largest state and the Indonesian province of East Java are combining their passion for football. The Western Australian Trade Office in Indonesia has announced the appointment of a football taskforce to develop people-to-people and business linkages through sport between Western Australia and East Java.
Heading the taskforce is Football Dynamics Asia, an Australian-Asian sports development firm with experience in regional development in Indonesia. It will focus on identifying opportunities for regular ‘friendlies’ between Western Australia and East Java representative men’s and women’s teams and between the professional soccer clubs in both countries. It will also introduce Western Australian expertise in sports education, training, administrative, medical, stadia, tourism and related technology and services.
"The State of Western Australia and the Province of East Java signed their first five-yearly Sister State/Province Relationship Memorandum of Understanding in August 1990 and this has blossomed into a multi-sectoral umbrella agreement for long-term commercial and cultural linkages,” said Martin Newbery, Regional Director of the WA Trade Office in Indonesia.
“The agreement facilitates cooperation in economics, commerce, industry and tourism; science, technology and administration; education, culture, manpower, social welfare, youth and sports but, until now, we have not seriously addressed sporting links. "Now with Australian soccer part of Asia, and Indonesia probably the most soccer-loving country in Asia, we have a wonderful opportunity for combining health, sport and business with developing goodwill with our neighbours."
With a population of almost 33 million people and a territory of about 48,000 square kilometres, East Java is a national leader in agriculture, commerce and other services, industry and transportation and communication. The province is also Indonesia's football heartland. In 2006 the Indonesian Premiership was won by Persik Kediri FC and the National Cup by Arema Malang FC, both of East Java and these two clubs are representing Indonesia in the current Asian Champions League.
Meanwhile, Australian soccer has entered its most productive era following its transfer to the Asian Football Confederation in January 2006. The Socceroos finished the FIFA World Cup in Germany as the highest ranking Asian nation. Football Federation Australia's new A-League also completed its first and second seasons over the past two years, breaking all records for crowd attendances and television ratings for domestic soccer.
Two Australian clubs are competing in the Asian Champions League for the first time and one of them, 2006 Australian Premiers, Sydney FC will be hosted in East Java on 11 April by Indonesia's 2006 top club, Persik Kediri in a vital Group E clash that will be broadcast throughout Indonesia and also telecast live back to Australia by Fox Sport. "Western Australia is one of the world's great professional football centres," Mr Newbery said.
"With two Australian Football League clubs, a team in the Rugby Super 14 competition and Perth Glory FC in the A-League, the sports passion of our State's 2 million residents has endowed it with second-to-none facilities and expertise in sports administration, marketing, medicine, fitness, nutrition, junior development, coaching, refereeing, stadium infrastructure and pitch technology and, of course, football technical skills.
“Indonesian national teams have travelled to Perth for fine tuning before major international tournaments but through this new initiative, Western Australian sports organisations, institutes, educational institutions and businesses may contribute directly to East Java's sports development, from the grassroots upwards."
CEO of Football Dynamics Asia, Mr Geoffrey Gold, said he was looking forward to collaborating with the Western Australian Trade Office and the Provincial Government of East Java as well as the key football stakeholders - Football Federation Australia and Football West, Football Association of Indonesia and East Java FA, Perth Glory FC and the professional football clubs of East Java - to produce a program that may be actioned in 2007.

Edukick-Blackurn Rovers training trip for FA of Singapore - Nokia competition winners
On the surface, both Syaifudin Said and Sheer Mohamed look like the average football-loving dude in Singapore. One’s a Weekend Warrior who plays street football regularly with his pals; the other is a midfielder for his school team. However, come 13 November 2006, the two will be embarking on a journey that’s anything but ordinary.
Both have been rewarded for their outstanding performances in the Nokia-Football Association of Singapore Defend Your Turf Challenge held earlier this year - with a two week Edukick training stint with English Premier League side Blackburn Rovers FC customised for the Football Association of Singapore by Football Dynamics Asia.
.
It’s a chance of a lifetime for both Sheer, 18 and Syaifudin, 22, who never expected this treat. “When I first knew that I had been selected for the Blackburn stint, I was shocked and stuck for quite a while in disbelief,” said Syaifudin with a laugh. Everything just happened so fast. In May, I actually didn’t know of this tournament until my friend registered me for it!
But lest you think the two lads are blessed with pure luck, they didn’t bag the opportunity to go UK merely by joining the Nokia-sponsored Defend Your Turf tournament. In fact, both were named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Players by a panel of judges made up of staff coaches from the Football Association of Singapore and members of the media.
For their hard work and efforts, they will get to train under Blackburn Rovers’ community academy coaches, who will put them through a series of drills and tactical sessions. For Sheer, who plays on Catholic Junior College’s school football team, he is doubly excited, for training program aside, he and Syaifudin are also scheduled to watch two live EPL matches. “One match is Blackburn versus Tottenham, and the other is Bolton against Arsenal,” said Sheer. “I’m a huge Arsenal fan and I can’t wait to see Thierry Henry in action!”
